25.02.15 Barn Conversions

A Dutch Barn or Atcost Shed or other Barn type, converted into a house or houses?

Is it feasible or even possible to do, both in terms of cost and in terms of the planning regulations?

Well the answer is YES, YES and YES!

YES to convert into a house or houses, depending on the size and height, in particular.

YES to convert can be financially viable, depending primarily on, location, access and drainage issues.

YES as far as the new permitted development planning regulations are concerned, which came into force on 6th April 2014, unless there are unusual circumstances which we can discuss with you. These regulations allow the conversion of up to 450 sq m of barn floor area into up to three dwellings. You are also free to apply for full detailed planning permission should you wish if these rules do not apply to your barn.
